FCW Wrestling: The First Ever Steel Cage Match For This Weekend

FCW Wrestling issued the following press release today:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Brooksville, Fl - September, 13 2010

--FCW RETURNS TO BROOKSVILLE THIS SATURDAY PRESENTS FIRST EVER STEEL CAGE MATCH--

Florida Championship Wrestling is no stranger to the town of Brooksville. The larger than life men and women who make up the roster for World Wrestling Entertainment's FCW Wrestling have been entertaining crowds in the area for nearly two years. But this Saturday night, the promotion has chosen to raise the stakes to a whole new level by presenting a Steel Cage Match Main Event.

"There's a long storied tradition of steel cage matches in our business" says FCW President Steve Keirn. "Part of what makes the match so special is that you really don't see them all that often. The wrestlers inside the cage take a huge risk with their careers and well being. The fans get excited because of the suspense surrounding the environment of a steel cage match. Having been in quite a few steel cage matches myself, there's a feeling you get that something memorable is going to happen." The memorable moment that Keirn speaks of seems almost certain considering that this will be the first Steel Cage match in the history of Florida Championship Wrestling in its current form.

The rules for this unique match are simple but effective. A competitor can win a Steel Cage Match by pinfall or submission and/or escaping the cage with both feet hitting the ground (rules may vary depending on the individual match). The cage, measured at approximately 15 feet in height is one of the oldest forms of special stipulation matches in Professional Wrestling history. Some historians believe the first steel cage match took place during the late 1930's in a ring surrounded by chicken wire. Today, the most commonly used cage consists of chain link fencing thus adding to the mystique of the match.

"I'm excited that my hometown is going to have the opportunity to be part of FCW history" says FCW Star and Brooksville's own Husky Harris. Harris, the son of WWE Legend Mike "IRS" Rotundo recently gained national exposure through WWE's hybrid reality show known as WWE NXT. "Every time I come back here with FCW, I feel like there's an added spark in my boots knowing that I'm performing in front of friends and family that have seen me grow over the years" he says. Husky's brother Bo echoed the sentiment saying "The people of Brooksville are going to see something they've never seen before and I'm lucky enough to be a part of it."

In addition to the first ever Steel Cage match, the card will feature all the top superstars of Florida Championship Wrestling including the stars from WWE's NXT seasons two and three. "Before every show, all I ask of all our stars is that they leave it all out in the ring as they say" says Keirn. "This is a special night for us. It's like taking a graduate course in college if you want to look at it that way and now they have to step up to the plate with a little more added pressure than usual" he says with a laugh.

For nearly half a century, Florida Championship Wrestling has been the Sunshine State's primary wrestling promotion providing a home for such wrestling legends as "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, The Brisco Brothers and Gordon Solie. Officially sanctioned and reorganized by the WWE during the summer of 2007, FCW has also become the training ground for future WWE Superstars. According to the promotion's written objective, it seeks to give fans a glimpse at the potential Superstars of tomorrow while providing exciting ring action that leaves the entire family with smiles on their faces. To date, over fifty men and women have gone on to WWE's Raw, WWE Smackdown or WWE NXT Television brands. "The current WWE Champion Sheamus came from FCW, WWE Smackdown Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler, the list goes on and on" Keirn says. Other current WWE Superstars that have come from FCW include the Nexus, Kofi Kingston, Ted DiBiase, The Usos, Primo Colon, Ezekiel Jackson, The Bella Twins, Evan Bourne, Tiffany, Alicia Fox, Trent Berretta, Caylen Croft, Yoshi-Tatsu and many more The company holds weekly shows at their home location dubbed the "FCW Arena" in South Tampa every Thursday night along with tapings for their weekly television show. Nearly every weekend, the group travels to such cities as Brookesville providing live events for fans who can't make it to the arena on Thursday nights.

FCW returns to Brooksville this Saturday, September 18th at the Brooksville Armory located at 16836 Springhill Drive in Spring Hill, FL. Gold Circle Ticket Holders will be granted admission to the show at 6:30pm. Doors for the general public will open at 7pm while bell time is 8pm.
